A new highly popular cross-breed dog created by combining a Pug with a Beagle. Puggles are a mixed-breed dog with a Pug Father and a Beagle Mother. The primary reason for breeding Puggles is to create a medium sized dog without the breathing problems of the Pug and the wandering problems of the Beagle.

The Puggle is often linked with starting the "Designer Dog" Era.

 
   
 


The Puggle is easily trainable and highly intelligent. Many owners choose to have their Puggles trained for obedience and agility. Puggles are a sturdy energetic breed and love to run and jump.

Type:
Companion.

Height:
10-15 inches.

Weight:
15-30 pounds; The Puggle can also be bred as Toy Puggles, weighing between 8-17 pounds.

Color:
Colors vary from fawn, black, silver and sometimes a white or brown body.

Coat:
Like pugs and beagles, their coats are course, short and think.

Temperament:
Puggles tend to be affectionate, and are known for their ability to get along well with children. T beagles, and many puggles are barely vocal at all. Some can be quite wild and frisky, however. Puggles often display a propensity to chase squirrels, rabbits, and other backyard intruders.

Activity Level:
Moderate to high. The Puggle is an active an energetic dog. However, due to its small size daily walks or a quick run in the park will suffice.

Maintenance:
Low maintenance. Because of their short coat Puggle do not require extensive coat brushing, bathing, ect. Although they are active they make great city pets because their exercise requirements can easily fulfilled with a daily walk in the park.

Training:
The Puggle can be a challenge to train, but that is not due to lack of intelligence. They can often be stubborn. However, the proper training sessions will easily make your Puggle the smartest dog on the block.

Care and Exercise:
Brush regularly to avoid shedding. Likes regular walks, but enjoys active playtime.

Special Needs:
Fenced yard, leash, socialization, and training.

Moderate-High.

Living Environment:
They enjoy brisk walks, running and even swimming.

Health Issues:
Can have some breathing issues like the Pug, but the Puggle usually inherits an elongated snout from the Beagle, which reduces breathing problems often associated with the Pug breed.

Barking:
Barking can vary greatly from dog to dog. However, Puggle are not notorious for their bad barking habits. Yet, they can become problematic if not trained properly.

Shedding:
Puggles do shed as all dogs do. Their short hair and small size seem to minimize the problem.

Allergies:
A Puggle is not a hypoallergenic dog.

Howling:
Some Puggles do howl on occasion. They can inherit this trait from the beagle genes.

Life Expectancy:
Puggles life expectancy is 10 - 15 years with the average life span closer to 15 years.
